 GEORGE TWIGG NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF NECPUC

Montpelier, VT – George Twigg has been named the next Executive Director of the New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners (NECPUC). Margaret Cheney, the organization’s Co-President and a Commissioner of the Vermont Public Utility Commission, announced today that Twigg will join NECPUC in December 2022.

“We are excited to have George join NECPUC to continue our work advancing the interests of the NECPUC member agencies and our utility consumers,” Commissioner Cheney said. “Utility regulation is increasingly important in our region’s quality of life and economic strength. With George at the helm, NECPUC will continue its important role supporting regulators and build on Meredith Hatfield’s leadership over the last three years.”

A graduate of Oberlin College and American University, Twigg is a seasoned manager and energy policy professional with over 20 years of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors. He will be returning to New England from Colorado, where he most recently served as the Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, a Cabinet-level agency. He has held leadership positions working on a broad range of energy policy and environmental issues, including serving for seven years as Director of Public Affairs for the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation.

“George’s experience has prepared him well to help us address the complex challenges facing our region,” said Cecile Fraser, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and member of the Search Committee. “We are pleased that he will bring his skills and experience to NECPUC, and we look forward to working with him to advance our mission.”

Founded prior to 1947, NECPUC aids New England’s 20 state utility commissioners in advancing the public’s interest in regional and federal forums on electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, and water regulation. The organization annually convenes a symposium to engage a range of parties – including public officials, academics, industry, and public interest advocates – to examine current issues in utility regulation.
